Scary Sugar Flowers
Sometimes Musical. Taking on yet another musical bake, this week I went somewhere that's green. Green and plant like. Suddenly Seymour! That's it!! I'll do Little Shop of Horrors. The recipe is fairy simple, but involves you having to go and buy some tiny silicon flower pots. Got them now? Great, let's begin.
100g Caster Sugar
75g Self Raising Flour
2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 tbsp Cocoa Nibs (I got mine from Hotel Chocolat)
This one is simple, its even more fun when you sing the method. All together now...
In a bowl, blend 100g of butter with 100g of caster sugar. Add in one egg and beat until combined. Sieve in 75g of Plain Flour, 2 tbsp cocoa powder and 1 tbsp of cocoa nibs. Mix in, then using an ice-cream scoop, scoop into 6 silicon flower pots. Place into a muffin tray and bake in the oven at 175ºC/350ºF for 15 minutes (maybe more, check with a knife).
For Audrey 2, you need to get a hold of your inner sugar paste modeller and shake them till they create some purple/blue paste (50g) and green (145g) with a little orange (5g). Turn the purple into 6 similar sized almond shapes. With the green, you will need 5 small leaves for each pot, and then 3 large pointy leaves. Mould some orange onto the tips of the 'spines' on the pointy leaves, then stick it all on with edible glue. Paint on some lips using red food colouring.
You may need to cut the tops of the cupcake flat in order to attach the flowers. Alternatively, make some green buttercream and use that. (50g butter, 100-150g icing sugar, dyed green) For other sugar needs and queries, please see She Who Bakes wonderful Icing breakdown.
